SohoBoyz has been successful in securing Voluntary Sector Grant Funding from Westminster to pilot an innovative Skills Development Programme. The aim of the programme is to support men and trans individuals who sell sex to access education, training and employment (ETE). We can assist individuals to build capacity, skills, and confidence, which may facilitate safer/smarter sex working, access to further education or routes into other forms for work.
Individual Approach
At SohoBoyz we recognise that male and trans sex workers have different and individual needs. For some, selling sex is a choice for now, and the Skills Development Programme might offer help to develop language and negotiation skills, to give them the confidence to set boundaries and limits with clients. For others, sex work is a means to support education, and for those the programme may offer support to enhance their existing studies. Many sex workers offer professional services, and for these guys, the programme offers business and financial skills development to assist them to register as self-employed and invest for their future. However, we also recognise that for some, sex work may be their only option due to limited choices, or that having sold sex for some time, individuals find it difficult to make the transition when they decide to exit, into other forms of employment - for these guys, the Programme offers support to transfer skills developed whilst selling sex, into other carer choices.
